Planning Calendar For College

FALL OF SENIOR YEAR

  • Retake the ACT and/or SAT if desired (dates located below)
  • Visit with your MHS counselor to discuss your options
  • Take advantage of the college representatives visiting the high school. Sign up for those you are interested in
  • Register for the SAT if required by the selected college (dates below)
  • Request teacher recommendations if required by the selected college.
  • Submit applications for your college choices
  • Research and apply for scholarships observing DEADLINES
  • Work hard to maintain or improve GPA
  • Submit completed college applications to your counselor
  • If applications are completed on-line, print the counselor page and give it to your counselor (or your transcript will not be sent)
  • Observe deadlines and allow 5 days for high school processing
  • Allow at least 8 weeks for a decision from the college or university

WINTER OF SENIOR YEAR

  • Work hard to maintain or improve GPA
  • Submit applications to colleges
  • Attend MHS Financial Aid Meeting
  • Complete the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa (after October 1st)
  • Submit 1st semester grades to college, only if requested
  • Stay on top of the scholarship deadlines

FALL OF JUNIOR YEAR

  • Visit with College representatives at MHS and at local college fairs
  • Access website College View (or other websites listed below) to research educational and career options
  • Register for the PSAT in the Guidance Office. Cost is $17
  • Research the admissions requirements and costs of the colleges you are interested in

WINTER OF JUNIOR YEAR

  • Discuss the PSAT results with your parents and/or counselor
  • Pursue your goals and career interests
  • Prepare for spring SAT
  • Plan an appropriate college preparatory schedule for senior year—an ACADEMIC schedule including dual enrollment and upper level MHS courses
  • Register online for the spring SAT

SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)

Mendon High School Juniors will be taking the SAT on April 10, 2024 at Mendon High School.

  • The SAT is the nation’s most widely used college admission test
  • The SAT tests a student’s reading, writing, and math ability
  • It offers individual subject tests, required by some colleges and universities

Practice books are available in the High School Guidance Office.
