The Mendon Wrestling Club (MWC) is entering into our fourth year of youth wrestling. The Club is affiliated with MYWA (Michigan Youth Wrestling Association). This association is the largest youth wrestling program in the state and is growing each year.

The MWC is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of wrestling to children ages 5 to 15. Our goal is to teach the athlete “folk” style wrestling while encouraging healthy habits.

MWC will have practice on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Practice will immediately follow the Varsity Wrestling Team practice. A complete practice schedule will be provided at sign ups. Competitions are on Sundays beginning December 11th with the 3nd annual MWC Hornet Novice Tournament. It is the parent’s choice whether to enter your youth in any tournament. MWC encourages participation in tournaments. There will be at least four “Novice” tournaments this season. “Novice” only permits wrestlers with less than two years experience to enter the tournament, giving new participants an opportunity to evaluate their ability against similar athletes.

The cost to join the club is $45.00 per athlete and $30.00 for each additional athlete from the same household. MWC does not require any fundraising from parents or athletes. The cost covers the team’s registration fee in MYWA, each participant’s registration fee in MYWA, and a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Parents must provide wrestling shoes and headgear. Parents will also be responsible for tournament entry fees and transportation to and from the tournaments. MWC will cover the cost to State Tournament if an athlete qualifies.

MWC will be holding signups at the Mendon High School Wrestling Room on Wednesday, November 16th from 6-7pm. There will be a second signup on the first day of practice on Tuesday, November 22nd beginning at 5:30pm.
