The Foundation Scholarships open each Spring for the current graduating class.

Jan K. Hollenbeck Teachers Scholarship

Jan K. Hollenbeck was a teacher at Mendon High School and retired in 1991. He established this scholarship to encourage graduates of Mendon High School to pursue careers in teaching and to leave a legacy of education, hard work, and devotion to community. This scholarship was first awarded in 2012.

Qualifications

• Mendon High School senior or recent graduate
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in education (teaching)
• Participation in extracurricular school and community activities which indicate potential for leadership, high moral character and academic achievement.
• Submit a Foundation Scholarship application
• For recent graduates, college transcript of all credits earned.

Renewal

• Certify continued commitment to a career in education
• Submit renewal request in writing, including current transcript
• Maintain full time student status and a minimum GPA of 2.0

Grant

• $8,000 per year for up to five years

John F. Outman Memorial Scholarship

The John F. Outman Scholarship was established in 1992.  John was a teacher in the Mendon Middle School.   He was known for encouraging his students to do their personal best…to aim high and to reward them when he felt they had achieved this high standard.  Encouragement and reward, this is what John did everyday to help his students.  This scholarship was established so that through his scholarship , John could continue to encourage and reward the students at Mendon.

Jones Family Memorial Scholarship

The Geraldine Jones Scholarship was established in 1999 in memory of  a lifelong Mendon resident and renamed in 2012 to also honor her husband Robert.  Bob and Gerry were involved in many facets of Mendon Community Life, their church and Mendon Schools.  The Jones Family would like to help a Mendon High School Senior further their education and their involvement in community and church.

Qualifications

• Mendon High School Senior with a 3.0 or greater GPA
• Participate for the entire season in at least one sport for each of the four years attending MHS
• Be a participant in church
• Volunteer to help at the Mendon Riverfest for the year in which the scholarship is received
• Volunteer to help at one church function in the year in which the scholarship is received. (The denomination of said church will be at the sole discretion of the recipient)
• Submit a Foundation Scholarship application

Renewal

• Submit renewal request in writing, including current transcript
• Maintain full time student status and a minimum GPA of 2.0

Grant

• $1,000 per year for up to four years

Doug Samson Memorial Scholarship

The Doug Samson Memorial Scholarship was established in 2001 in memory of a lifelong Mendon resident.  Doug supported many aspects of the Mendon community including the Mendon Little League and the Mendon Dust-Off.  Doug and his family established this scholarship to encourage Mendon graduates to pursue their passion for the sport of baseball.  Doug wanted to use this scholarship to acknowledge the commitment needed by student-athletes to perform not only on the diamond but also in the classroom.

Qualifications

• Mendon High School Senior
• Four years participation with baseball (Any combination of JV and Varsity)
• In good standing with the Athletic and Student Handbook Rules (No major infractions)
• 3.00 GPA or better
• Submit a Foundation Scholarship application.

• $1,000 for one year

Robert Millard Memorial Scholarship

Robert Millard, a resident of Mendon since he was 6 years old, graduated from Mendon High School in 1930.  Bob believed in learning something new everyday.  Whether at work, at home, or at the farm, Bob enjoyed problem solving, inventing and fixing things. He had a strong affection for the community of Mendon and believed in supporting the advanced education of Mendon students.  This scholarship was established in 2007, so that through his scholarship, Bob could help a student on their journey of learning and discovery.

Qualifications

• Mendon High School Senior
• Pursuing a career in Engineering or other Technical Field.
• Submit a Foundation Scholarship application.

Heritage Schoolhouse Building & Trade Scholarship

The Heritage Schoolhouse Building & Trade Scholarship was established in 2011 and first given in 2012.  It is to honor the history of the original Mendon School built in 1906 and encourage and support students who want to pursue a career in the Building &Trade Industry.

Qualifications

• Mendon High School Senior with a 2.0 or greater GPA
• Participate in Community Service during their High School Career.
• Submit a Foundation Scholarship application.

• $1,000 for one year

Heritage Schoolhouse College Scholarship

The Heritage Schoolhouse College Scholarship was established in 2011 and first given in 2012.  It is to honor the history of the original Mendon School built in 1906 and support students who want to further their academic career at any College or University, to pursue a degree in a discipline of their choice.

Qualifications

• Mendon High School Senior with a 3.0 or greater GPA
• Participate in extracurricular activities during their High School Career
• Submit a Foundation Scholarship application.

Michael J. Vrobel Memorial Scholarship

Mike Vrobel graduated from Mendon High School in 1968. He attended Glen Oaks Community College and Kalamazoo Valley Community College.  Mike had a knack for being able to fix whatever needed repair. He was a Welder, Machinist, Mold Maker, Electrical & Hydraulic troubleshooter, just to name a few. Mike was what we called a “Practical Engineer”.  He was also a farmer and worked using his talents around the county. Affinity Custom Molding has established this scholarship in his memory to help a Mendon Graduate follow in his footsteps to develop their talents  in Skilled Trades, Manufacturing & Industrial Technology as well as Natural resources & Agriculture.  This Scholarship was first awarded in 2016.

• Pursuing a career in a Skilled Trade for Manufacturing/Industrial Technologies, Natural Resources/Agriculture or other Technical Field.

EverGreene Memorial Scholarship

The EverGreene Memorial Scholarship was established by the EverGreene Foundation to honor Blaine and Joyce Rabbers and to help a Mendon graduate pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math or, alternatively, in Music. Blaine and Joyce were lifelong learners, known for their love of nature and for encouraging others to pursue their passions. The EverGreene Memorial Scholarship was established in 2018 to help and encourage a Mendon student to pursue their dreams.
